The 7 Best Gymnastics Mats in 2022: Find Your Perfect Mat

The 7 Best Gymnastics Mats in 2022: Find Your Perfect Mat

Becoming a better gymnast is all about practice, practice, practice. That means investing in quality gymnastics mats for home and in the studio. For dedicated gymnasts, the next step is determining what the best gymnastics mats are for your needs and skill level.

If you want to work on your walkovers and handsprings, you’ll have different needs from someone trying to master even trickier moves and complex floor routines. And if you’re planning a home practice space, that could be completely different from someone kitting out a whole studio.

Finding that perfect mat in a sea of options can be a challenge, so what’s a gymnast to do? Why not let me be your spotter? I made this list of the top gymnastics mats for 2022 to help you discover the best of the best.

How to Choose the Best Gymnastics Mats

There are a number of factors to consider as you start your journey to buy the best mat for you.

Thickness

Thickness is one of the most important considerations for gymnastics mats. In general, thicker mats offer higher shock-absorption, and that’s a big deal when you’re getting into those advanced moves.

Dimensions

How much room do you need to practice? While a smaller mat is more likely to fit wherever you want it to go, it can’t cover the space needed for advanced gymnastics. Consider how much ground you cover during practice, and keep those needs in mind when you think about mat dimensions.

Durability

It’s no secret that gymnastics mats can be a bit pricey, so the last thing you want is to wear out a mat really quickly and have to purchase another one within a year. That’s why you should make sure you choose a mat that is durable and built to handle your activity.

Easy Maintenance

These gymnastics mats offer the ease and convenience we all seek in our lives. All of our mats (except the Cheer Mats – but they just require a little vacuuming now and then) have a smooth, nonporous surface that’s incredibly easy to clean. Just wipe them down with a damp cloth or a traditional sanitizing product.

Cost

No matter what your budget looks like, there’s a gymnastic mat out there that’s right for you. You can purchase quality products without breaking $150, and even the most high-end mats start at less than $800. A lot of factors go into the price, including the thickness, durability, and size.

Installation

Here are some things to consider:

Is this a permanent installation, or do you share the space? Will you need to store the mats often?Do you want the option to change the size of the practice area using multiple mats?

Honestly, no gymnastics mats are particularly difficult to install. Most of the time, you just roll them out or unfold them, and then you’re done. Still, it’s good to keep portability, storage, and versatility in mind.

Our 4’x8’x2″ folding panel mats are an excellent choice for gymnastics as well as martial arts. The cross-link polyethylene foam material absorbs impact to protect your joints and keep you safe.

These mats come in a range of fun colors. If bright color isn’t your thing, you also have a choice of black.

What People Are Saying

“Everyone who has come in contact with my mats, comments on their quality and how good they feel under their feet. My girls constantly use them to practice their tumbling skills, including handsprings, round-offs, and aerials. The mats offer firm support for aerial silk skills that don’t require a crash mat.” – Sandy from Frederick, MD

“This really met our needs. All three of my kids have been using this mat–my daughter for her tumbling, my son for his martial arts, and my toddler just for jumping around and setting up ″tea parties″. It’s extra thick and a little springy and while it’s a pretty good size to be useful, it folds up easily and fits in a closet, so it’s practical to keep in the house without having a dedicated gym area.” – Jennifer from Southeast Florida

How to Choose Artificial Grass

Before you start shopping for the perfect artificial grass, there are some important factors you should keep in mind. Once you know what you look for, you can shop with confidence, knowing you won’t miss anything important.

Durability

Synthetic turf is a big investment, so of course, you want to buy something that will last. When it comes to durability, face weight is the most important thing to look out for.

The face weight refers to the weight of one square yard of turf. The heavier the face weight, the denser the turf, which means it will be more durable.

1-20 oz This lower range of face weight is made for low-traffic applications.21-40 oz Use this face weight for low to moderate traffic applications.41-60 oz This face weight is great for moderate traffic.61-80 oz Choose this face weight for demanding applications and heavy traffic.

Material

Fake grass can be made from a few different materials, and they each have strengths and weaknesses.

Nylon (The Most Durable): Nylon is the most durable fiber used to manufacture turf. However, it does fade in direct sunlight, so it’s not a good choice for outdoor turf.Polypropylene (Great for Outdoors): This material won’t fade in direct sunlight, and it’s softer and less abrasive than nylon. However, it’s not as durable as nylon.Polyethylene (Eco-Friendly): Made from recycled plastic and glass bottles, polyethylene is both eco-friendly and more affordable than nylon or polypropylene. It’s the softest choice of all, and it doesn’t fade in direct sunlight.

Price

If you’re working on a tight budget, you obviously need to take price into account. The good news is, there are a ton of affordable artificial grass options that offer high-quality performance without breaking the bank.

The great thing about synthetic turf is that it pays for itself over time. You don’t have to spend money on lawn care tools, and you won’t have to worry about huge water bills, either.

Whether you want to gift some storage solutions or upgrade the style with flooring and furniture, you have options. So without further ado, here are some perfect garage gifts for the holidays.

Stylish Garage Flooring

A functional garage starts with the floor. Bare concrete just doesn’t have the style, stain resistance, and slip resistance of quality floor tiles or rolls. This is the first step in creating a garage that’s the envy of the whole neighborhood.

Hard Plastic Tiles

Some of the toughest garage tiles on the market, hard plastic tiles resist staining from oil, gas, and most household chemicals. The impact-resistant polypropylene plastic holds up to heavy rolling vehicles.

If you know someone who wants a stylish floor, garage floor tiles are your best bet, because they offer the most color options. You can also choose interlocking tiles with a variety of surface textures – like vented and diamond plate – to create a customized look.

10 Laminate Flooring Pros and Cons: Learn the Essentials

10 Laminate Flooring Pros and Cons: Learn the Essentials

Laminate flooring is one of the most popular categories in the flooring world. It’s known for its easy installation, realistic wood looks, and affordable price compared to solid hardwood. But is it worth it? Let’s review the top 10 laminate flooring pros and cons to help answer that question.

Related Content > Laminate Flooring Buying Guide: What You Should Know

Pros of Laminate Flooring

There are lots of reasons to love laminate. It’s the original wood-look flooring, so manufacturers have spent years perfecting the designs and features.

1. Easy DIY Installation

Laminate planks usually feature an interlocking design, which allows you to snap the planks together and install them without the need for glue or nails.

This also means you can “float” laminate over an existing subfloor such as tile, so you don’t have to rip up your old floor.

All in all, laminate is perfect for a DIY project.

2. Affordable Pricing

12mm Mannington Palace Waterproof Laminate

Laminate flooring is much more budget-friendly than solid hardwood flooring. The price of laminate varies, but you can expect an average cost of $2 – $6 per sqft. High-end features like waterproofing contribute to a bigger price tag

Meanwhile, according to HomeAdvisor, hardwood flooring costs an average of $3 – $7 per sqft, with an average installation cost of $3 to $5 per sqft. When you add in the cost of maintenance, hardwood flooring is more than double the cost of laminate.

3. Easy to Clean

If you want a floor with minimal maintenance, laminate is a great choice for you. Laminate comes with a durable wear layer that often protects against scuffs and stains. That means you can have effortlessly beautiful floors.

To keep laminate looking its best, simply sweep up any dust and dirt every week, and occasionally clean it with a lightly damp microfiber mop.

4. Durable Design

12mm Hillside Hickory Waterproof Laminate

Laminate is built to be tough, whether you choose it for a commercial space or a busy home. Many options are built to resist scratches, stains, and fading. It can handle heavy traffic and is ideal for people with kids and pets.

Laminate flooring has an Abrasion Class (AC) rating that determines how much traffic it can handle.

AC3  Good for high traffic areas in your home and light traffic in commercial spacesAC4 Good for any residential application and medium traffic in commercial spacesAC5 Good for high traffic commercial spaces

5. High-Quality Appearance

Laminate is the original wood-look flooring, and it continues to lead the pack with some of the most realistic visuals on the market. You can choose from high-quality looks that mimic the most stylish species, including Hickory and European White Oak.

Some laminate flooring is even embossed in register, which means the embossed texture on the surface perfectly matches the wood grain visuals for a highly realistic feel.

Cons of Laminate Flooring

10mm Mohawk Castlebriar Waterproof Laminate

Although laminate flooring comes with a lot of benefits, there are still some considerations you should be aware of. That way, you can make an informed decision about your new floor.

1. Moisture Issues

Laminate has a reputation for moisture damage when there’s excessive water. The high-density fiberboard (HDF) core can absorb water, which leads to swelling and warping. That’s why people typically avoid installing it in basements, bathrooms, and other high-moisture areas.

However, you can now choose water-resistant and even waterproof laminate flooring You can also improve the moisture resistance of your floor by including a moisture barrier underneath it.

2. Can’t Refinish

12mm Mohawk Briarfield Waterproof Laminate

With real hardwood, you may have the option to refinish your floor if it gets scratched or if you want to update the style.

But laminate is synthetic, and the surface layer is too thin to sand down and refinish. If you want to change the look of the floor, or if it’s starting to look worn, you’ll have to replace it.

3. Sustainability

Eco-friendliness is important to a lot of people, and there are some drawbacks to laminate when it comes to sustainability.

Laminate contains plastic, and it won’t biodegrade. Low-quality laminate may also be made with glues that contain formaldehyde, and there’s a chance it can off-gas VOCs. To ensure you choose safe, high-quality laminate, look for products that are FloorScore certified.

4. Hollow Sound

12mm Mohawk Elderwood Waterproof Laminate

If you don’t install it correctly, laminate can sometimes have a noisy or hollow sound when you walk over it. To avoid that, make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions during installation.

Underlayment also helps with sound insulation, so you should always install underlayment beneath laminate flooring.

5. Resale Value

Some flooring, like hardwood, is virtually guaranteed to improve the resale value of your home. Laminate, while beautiful and durable, doesn’t always increase home value. It depends on the quality and style

So, while laminate can sometimes improve the value of your home, it’s not as dramatic as solid hardwood or tile. That’s important to keep in mind, especially if you want to flip a house or dramatically upgrade your home value.

Laminate Flooring FAQ: 20+ Answers to the Most Common Questions

Laminate Flooring FAQ: 20+ Answers to the Most Common Questions

We’ve heard you’ve got questions about laminate flooring. The good news – we’ve got answers to the most frequently asked questions and DIY solutions for maintenance, installation, and more!

What is Laminate Flooring? The Basics

Laminate flooring is a stylish and resilient alternative to hardwood flooring. With advanced manufacturing technology, laminate floors perform better than ever before and come in ultra-realistic designs and textures that mimic expensive wood species at a fraction of the price.

What is Laminate Flooring Made of?

Laminate is often referred to as a “hybrid” floor because of its high-density fiberboard (HDF) core topped with an image layer and wear layer.

Wear layer: Laminate wear layers are commonly waterproof, protect the floor from scratches and stains, and provide a realistic feel. Wear layers can include rougher, more natural-looking scrapes and knots. For the most hyper-realistic look and feel, explore our embossed in register laminate options, where the image layer and wood-grain wear layer align perfectly. Image layer: This holds the pattern or print, making the laminate look like wood and stone. Core layer: This layer is typically made of compressed high-density fiberboard, giving the floor durability and stability. It’s resistant to water but not necessarily waterproof. The core layer is also where the locking system is located. Backing: The backing keeps water from penetrating from the subfloor. A high-quality backing can protect the laminate floor from peaking and moisture damage.

What Are the Advantages of Laminate Flooring?

13mm Tuffcore Estate WaterResist Laminate

Laminate flooring comes with several attractive benefits for the home, such as:

Scratch resistance: Laminate can stand up against high-traffic environments, especially for homeowners with young children and pets. DIY installation: Laminate’s interlocking plank design allows the flooring to “float” above the subfloor without adhesives, nails, or tape. It’s great for DIYers. Easy to clean: Maintenance is minimal with laminate, so you’ll always have great-looking floors. Realistic feel: Laminate flooring mimics natural wood grains and looks for the most realistic experience underfoot. With the laminate’s HDF core, it also holds heat and “walks” like traditional wood flooring. Related Content > Best Laminate Flooring Options

What Are the Disadvantages of Laminate Flooring?

Although laminate has several appealing perks to it, there are some downsides to be aware of.

Moisture: Traditional laminate can be susceptible to moisture. However, with today’s technology, there are various water-resistant and 100% waterproof laminate options. Refinishing: Laminate flooring’s synthetic construction does not allow it to be refinished like solid wood.

How Thick Should My Laminate Flooring Be?

14mm KronoSwiss Origin Wide Plank Laminate

We know your investment in laminate flooring is important. You deserve flooring that stands up against wear, feels comfortable underfoot, and doesn’t appear cheap. With that in mind, we highly suggest laminate options between 10mm to 14mm thick

Although laminate floors can be as thin as 6mm, the quality and durability of the material don’t perform anywhere near the thicker options.

Benefits of Thicker Laminate Flooring

Quieter underfoot and with less echoMore natural hardwood feel Increased impact resistanceRealistic wood etching and aging featuresAbility to hide subfloor imperfections easier

What Does the AC Rating for Laminate Flooring Mean?

The Abrasion Class (AC) rating determines how much traffic your laminate flooring can handle. To find the best laminate option for areas around your home or business; follow the ratings below:

AC1: Sufficient for bedrooms and closets.

AC2: Perfect for family rooms, living rooms, and dining rooms.

AC3:Great for high-traffic residential spaces and light commercial use.

AC4: Fantastic for residential spaces and commercial areas with medium foot traffic.

AC5:The best option for heavy commercial applications.

What Is the Difference Between Laminate and Vinyl Flooring?

12mm Mannington Palace Waterproof Laminate

Both laminate and vinyl flooring are reliable options for your home. In a way, they are close cousins, providing equally easy installation, competitive pricing, and similar wood looks.

One main difference with vinyl flooring is that it’s made of 100% synthetic material and has a PVC or SPC core, making it more suitable for high-moisture areas. Additionally, the range of vinyl thicknesses is a bit more extensive than what laminate can offer.

Related Content > Laminate vs. Vinyl Flooring Buying Guide

re Laminate Floors Waterproof?

Yes, many laminate floors are waterproof! The great news is that you can choose from various water-resistant and waterproof options to find what suits your needs best. Waterproof laminate does not allow any moisture to penetrate the flooring, no matter how much time has passed. Water-resistant laminate, although highly resistant to moisture, can soak in liquids eventually if left unattended.

Depending on where you intend to install your floors, 100% waterproof laminate flooring can offer the most resistance to damage in moisture-prone areas of the home. In addition, cleanup is simple with waterproof laminate, as liquids stay on top of the surface. Wipe them away when you get the chance for stain-free floors.

Benefits of Waterproof Laminate Floors:

Their waterproof core is less susceptible to swelling and lifting from the subfloor. A water-repellent seal that prevents moisture from reaching the core of the floor. Some waterproof laminate plank floors come with beveled edges that help keep moisture from the cracks between planks.  SHOP WATERPROOF LAMINATE FLOORS

How Long Does Laminate Flooring Last?

12mm Mohawk Sawmill Ridge Waterproof Laminate

Most of our laminate floors come backed with an extensive warranty ranging from five years to a lifetime guarantee. With proper care, your laminate can look beautiful in your home for years of enjoyment.

When shopping for laminate flooring, we find it helpful to compare the AC ratings of the laminate you’re interested in. Floors of a higher AC rating of 4 or 5 are commercially rated and therefore made to withstand tougher conditions for more extended and up to 20 to 30 years.

How to Install Laminate Flooring

12mm Mohawk Southbury Waterproof Laminate

If you love DIY home projects, then laminate is just the thing for you. You can install laminate planks easily, thanks to the interlocking tongue and groove systems. Your laminate flooring will “float” directly on top of your subfloor without the use of grout, glue, adhesives, or extensive installation tools.

Where Can I Install Laminate Flooring?

You can install laminate above and below grade and practically anywhere in the home. We recommend waterproof laminate flooring for high moisture areas, like the kitchen and bathroom, and suggest that you clean up any water or spills right away.  If you’re a business owner and are interested in laminate floors, we have heavy commercial options that can stand up against heavy foot traffic and resist scuffs and dents.

Does Laminate Flooring Need Underlayment?

12mm Anthem Plus WaterResist Laminate

Yes! For the best results, you must use underlayment with an attached vapor barrier underneath your laminate flooring. Underlayment provides several benefits, such as sound absorption, insulation, and protection against moisture.

Some of our laminate flooring options include an attached underlayment. If not, we have a variety of foam and cork underlayment options available for you to choose from.

Additionally, If you intend on installing laminate flooring over concrete floors, you must have a vapor barrierConcrete is porous, and a vapor barrier will prevent moisture from coming up from the subfloor, potentially ruining your laminate.

What Tools Do You Need to Install Laminate Flooring?

Besides your chosen underlayment and laminate flooring, you’ll need various tools for installation, such as a:

PenTape measurerKnee padsRubber malletTapping blockJamb saw, or a table saw with a laminate bladeSpacersWide-angle pull bar Tongue and groove adhesiveSHOP INSTALLATION TOOLS

How Do You Lay Laminate Flooring?

Flooring Installation Kit

After gathering the right tools, you can begin installing your laminate flooring.

Start the installation by placing the first plank in the corner of the room, working from left to right. With the tongue and groove connectors and seams aligned, connect the first row. Continue to lay your laminate flooring, making sure to use the tapping block and rubber mallet to keep the planks locked into position. When you come across a wall/door jamb and need to cut the plank, measure the space and mark with a pencil or chalk for where you want to cut. Then, use a tile cutter or table saw to cut the excess of the plank for a refined edge. If you have any cut ends 6” or longer, you can use those to begin your next row. You can stagger the planks to give them a natural wood floor look. Set the next plank into the previous row at a slight angle to ensure it interlocks properly. Continue down the room, checking to ensure planks are interlocked and seams have a snug fit. Add spacers every couple of feet around the edges of the flooring, and remove them when you’re done installing.

Note: For a more seamless appearance around expansion gaps, you may choose to add a quarter-round molding to cover them up.

Measure where you want to cut your laminate and mark a line with chalk or pencil Hold your board steady in place, using a stand or clamp. With your table saw or jamb saw, make straight cuts through your laminate. For detailed or angular cuts, we recommend using a jigsaw or utility knife.

Safety Tip: Keep your hands steady and away from the blade at all times. Wear safety gloves, goggles, and a face mask to protect yourself from laminate chippings. For more safety tips, visit Homes.com for things to look out for during every step of your renovation.

How to Clean and Maintain Laminate Flooring

12mm Hillside Hickory Waterproof Laminate

One of the most fantastic perks of laminate flooring is the easy cleanup compared to other intensive floor types. Explore below for the best ways to keep your floors feeling fresh underfoot and help them retain their beautiful shine.

How Do You Clean Laminate Flooring?

For weekly maintenance, sweep your floors with a soft-bristle broom to clean off dust, debris, and leftover crumbs. Then, with the lowest setting of your vacuum, lightly do a run-over of your floors. It’s important to gently clean laminate, as higher vacuum settings can lead to scratches and damage over time.

Wish for a deeper clean? Damp-mop your laminate with a liquid cleaning solution specifically formulated for it. Use a damp microfiber mop or another absorbent mop that will prevent too much water from getting on your laminate. Once you finish mopping, use a dry microfiber cloth to remove any remaining moisture.

How Do You Maintain the Shine of Laminate Flooring?

Maintain your laminate by regularly sweeping and removing stains promptly to avoid staining. You should never wax or polish your laminate floor as its shiny appearance requires no additional solutions.

What Does Laminate Floor Peaking Mean?

12mm Mohawk Elderwood Waterproof Laminate

Buckling, warping, and cupping of your laminate are often referred to as laminate “peaking.” Peaking happens when there is improper space for your laminate to expand and contract, if there is excessive moisture beneath, or if the environment is highly humid.

Additionally, not enough space between the edges of the floor and walls can create buckling. If peaking is left uncorrected, your laminate floor can eventually lift off entirely.

How Do You Fix Laminate Flooring That Is Lifting?

If the peaking is not too severe, you can correct your laminate by adding expansion space.

How to fix laminate floor peaking

Start by removing the baseboards and find the areas where flooring is locked into place. Remove the laminate planks, and cut them 3/8” shorter to leave room for expansion and contraction.Lay the laminate flooring back down, and give two to three weeks for peaking to subside. If peaking persists, lay something heavy over the flooring for a while.

How Can I Prevent Scratches On My Laminate Flooring?

Mohawk Home Dual Surface Rug Pad

There are several preventative actions you can take to reduce scratches on your floors.

Place entrance mats at doorways.Remove shoes – especially heels and cleats.Apply felt pads underneath all furniture to avoid scraping.Never drag or push objects across the floor – ask for help to pick them up instead.Add area rugs throughout the space for added protection and style. For rolling chairs, attach rubber wheels to them

How Can I Remove Scratches On My Laminate Flooring?

Laminate flooring is durable and great for high-traffic areas; however, scrapes and damage are inevitable after years of use. Below are some quick DIY fixes to reduce the appearance of scratches on your laminate.

Use touch-up markers – they’re great for very fine, superficial scratches on your laminate flooring. Also, touch-up markers are a speedy and cost-effective way to clean up the small areas of your laminate without fully repairing them. For deeper scratches and dents, use wood wax. Check the manufacturer for wax filler sticks that match the exact color of your laminate flooring. You can quickly fill in the scratches by melting the wax and applying it to sections of your laminate floor. Colored putty kits are another option that works great to fill deep imperfections. This option requires buffing the area and precision to apply the putty evenly for a flawless finish. Make sure to check with the manufacturer for kit availability.

If the damage to your laminate floors is too extensive, you may want to consider replacing individual planks for an entirely new finish. Removing sections of laminate can be challenging, so consult professional advice before doing so.

What is Commercial Carpet?

Commercial carpets are ultra-durable carpets designed for heavy traffic, stain resistance, and easy maintenance. They’re typically Berber, which means the fibers are looped through the carpet backing, making them less soft but more durable.

Commercially-rated carpets have a lower pile, meaning they are thinner. This allows the carpet to hold up to wear and tear without matting or crushing.

Industrial carpet comes in a variety of patterns and colors to fit your commercial space. They’re perfect for retail entryways, commercial gyms, commercial offices, grocery stores, airports, banks, and even your home!

bout Carpet Fibers

Shaw Intellect Carpet Tile

Nylon This is a popular choice inside commercial buildings, condos, and apartments. Nylon is often chosen for its safety with indoor applications because it meets fire codes since it doesn’t burn – it melts. However, it fades in the sun, so avoid outdoor use.Polyester Polyester or “PET” is typically a lower cost than nylon, and it works in both indoor and outdoor applications. This durable fiber resists water and staining, which makes it great for any use in the home and even in commercial spaces.Polypropylene These fibers are cheaper than others, but they still hold up very well in high-traffic areas. You can find polypropylene fiber in places like grocery stores or office lobbies. It resists mold and mildew, but it stains more easily than the others.

bout Carpet Thickness

Shaw Lucky Break Carpet Tile

While residential carpet is thick and plush, commercial carpet is the opposite. The fibers are short and dense, creating a heavy-duty carpet that resists crushing and denting. Low-pile carpet is built for heavy foot traffic and tons of wear, but it sacrifices comfort for all that durability, so it’s rougher underfoot.

Pros and Cons of Commercial Carpet

Weave Carpet Tiles

If you’re still not sure if carpeting is the best solution for your commercial space, consider the pros and cons. Learning about the benefits and potential drawbacks will help you make a decision.

Pros

Durability: The tough fibers and dense, low pile ensure that your floor can handle heavy traffic.Price: For budget-conscious buyers, carpet is the perfect commercial flooring option. It’s durable and stylish, all without breaking the bank.Maintenance: Low-pile, stain-resistant carpet is a breeze to clean. Just make sure to vacuum regularly, and your floor will look great for years to come. Installation: Self-adhesive carpet tiles are designed for quick and easy installation, so you can save time and money.

Cons

Comfort: Because it’s designed for durability, commercial carpet isn’t as plush and comfortable as regular residential carpet.Installation: Yes, this is a pro and a con, depending on the product. Not all carpet is designed for peel and stick installation. For really high-traffic areas, you’ll need to glue down the carpet, and that’s best left to a professional.

How to Install Commercial Carpet

Impressions Carpet Tiles

The ease of installing carpet depends on where you’re putting it, and the type of carpet you choose. If you’re going to install carpet tiles in your home, then it’s a simple DIY project. But if you need carpet rolls in a high-traffic business, you may want to hire a professional.

How to Install Carpet Tiles

When you want something easy to install, carpet tiles are the way to go. There are two main ways to install it: tape-down/peel and stick installation and glue-down installation.

Peel and Stick or Tape Installation

Peel and stick tiles are the easiest way to install carpet. The adhesive is pre-applied to each tile and all you have to do is pull back the plastic sheet to expose it. You can also use double-sided carpet tape if the adhesive isn’t already applied.

From there, simply place the carpet on the floor, and press down to make sure it sticks.

Glue Down Installation

For commercial areas with lots of traffic, you should glue down the carpet for more stability. Use a pressure-sensitive adhesive for a more permanent hold. This project is often best-suited for professionals, but if you want to DIY your floor, you can apply the adhesive yourself. Always make sure to check the manufacturer to find more detailed installation instructions.

How to Install Carpet Rolls

Installing carpet rolls requires the glue-down method to keep them stable. Apply the adhesive onto the floor, and then roll the carpet into the adhesive using the carpet core or the flat end of a push broom. Then you just have to wait for the adhesive to cure before you can walk over the floor. Again, check the manufacturer for detailed installation instructions.

Carpet FAQ

Mannington Outline Carpet Tile

Still have some questions? We have the answers!

What type of carpet is best for commercial use?

Low-pile nylon carpet is best for commercial use because the durable fiber can handle heavy traffic without matting or getting crushed. It’s also stain-resistant and easier to keep clean, which is important in larger commercial spaces where intense maintenance would be a hassle. We recommend carpet with looped fibers, like Berber, because this construction makes the carpet even stronger.

What’s the difference between commercial and residential carpet?

Residential carpets are designed to be plush and comfortable, while commercial carpet is more durable. The carpet in your home usually has a higher pile and softer fibers than commercial flooring. High-traffic carpet will be more rough and dense, so it can withstand heavy traffic, stains, and more.

Is commercial carpet more expensive?

Commercial carpet is typically less expensive than thick, plush residential carpet. The price can vary depending on the features of the carpet, but as a whole, you can expect it to have a lower cost per square foot than the carpet in your home.

Does commercial carpet need padding?

Commercial carpet doesn’t always need padding. Sometimes, you can glue it directly to the subfloor. However, you can still benefit from carpet padding if you choose the right option. Rubber roll underlayment provides the best padding, because it’s durable and not too soft, while still offering some give underfoot.

10+ Artificial Grass Myths: Get the Facts from Our Experts

Artificial grass is beloved for its ease of maintenance and its realistic natural look. But for as long as it’s been around, artificial grass has developed a lot of rumors about its construction, price, features, and more. When it comes to shopping, these myths can cause a lot of confusion.

This comprehensive guide busts eleven common misconceptions about artificial grass so you can shop smart and find the right option for you! Let’s dive in.

Myth 1: All Artificial Grass Looks Alike and/or Fake

Artificial Grass Myth 1: Helios Artificial Grass Deck Tiles

Expert Opinion: False

While the main premise of artificial grass is to look green all year round, different types of artificial grass do not look the same.

The look of the grass depends on the application. For instance, sports turf will look different than landscape turf. Landscape turf is made to look exactly like natural grass. Whereas sports turf might look more artificial, and is more so what you’ll find on baseball fields, or in a gym.

Even different landscape turf options look different from each other. Typically, the major difference is the texture of the blades and the color of the grass.

Pro Tip: For eye-catching artificial turf, consider Helios Artificial Grass Deck Tiles paired with Helios Deck Tiles to create a unique pattern for your patio flooring.

Myth 2: Turf is Primarily for Sports Fields

Artificial Grass Myth 2: Elevate Turf Rolls

Expert Opinion: False

AstroTurf was one of the first turf options, installed in 1965 at the Astrodome, the former home of the Houston Astros. While it was intended for sports use at first, manufacturers realized that artificial grass could help upgrade yards all over the world with ease.

Therefore, after years of innovation and improvements to artificial grass looks and functionality, artificial turf is now used as grass for residential yards, commercial landscaping, and so much more.

Pro Tip:  Make sure your grass blades stand up straight by adding grass infillafter installation.

Myth 3: Artificial Grass Requires Zero Maintenance

Artificial Grass Myth 3: Del Mar Turf Rolls

Expert Opinion: False

While artificial grass requires less maintenance than natural grass, it still requires some effort to keep it looking nice all year round. It’s true, you do not have to mow or water artificial grass, but you do have to maintain and clean it.

Artificial grass fibers can lay flat and look matted with continued foot traffic, so your beautiful green lawn won’t look as sharp as you’d like.

To keep your lawn looking fresh, it’s important to practice monthly lawn maintenance. The following steps make it super easy to get the job done.

Remove any leaves or small branches from the area with a leaf blower.Using a turf rake, sweep against the natural direction of the grass to groom it into an upright position and to loosen up any stuck-on dirt. If necessary, spray any spots affected by pet waste with your desired artificial grass cleaning solution. Lightly hose off the area to remove any dirt or debris so your artificial grass shines.

Pro Tip: To stop weeds from growing through your turf, lay a weed barrier on top of the compacted turf base. Place the barrier wherever grass is being installed.

Myth 4: Turf is Bad for the Environment

Artificial Turf Myth 4: Catalina Turf Rolls

Expert Opinion: False

This is a pretty common rumor you might hear about artificial grass, but let’s break down the facts!

You might be thinking, “What can be less harmful than natural grass?” But the truth is, artificial grass doesn’t require toxic pesticides, herbicides, weed killers, or fertilizers like natural grass does.

Plus, you can significantly reduce your water usage by not running your sprinkler system, and the gas from your mower will no longer pollute the air.

By cutting out the maintenance of natural grass, you’re doing a lot more for our planet than you realize.

Myth 5: Artificial Grass Doesn’t Drain as Well as Natural Grass

Artificial Grass Myth 5: Newport Premium Turf Rolls

Expert Opinion: False

Years ago, before all the artificial grass innovations, this statement might have been true. Artificial grass used to get overwhelmed by copious amounts of water and didn’t drain properly.

But that’s all changed! Manufacturers made adjustments to ensure excellent drainage for artificial grass rolls and tiles. Nowadays, there are drainage holes in the turf, plus you can use crushed granite to aid in the drainage process. So no matter how much rain your grass gets, your lawn will still look fabulous.

Pro Tip: If the blades on your lawn start to look flattened or matted, you can “bloom” the turf by raking it. This practice helps create a fresh-looking lawn in no time at all.

Myth 8: Artificial Grass is Unsafe for Kids and Pets

Artificial Grass Myth 8: Greenspace Artificial Grass Rugs

Expert Opinion: False

Myth 9: Artificial Grass will Fade Over Time

Artificial Grass Myth 9: Putting Green Mats

Expert Opinion: Mostly False

Most artificial grass is UV resistant and won’t fade over time. However, UV resistance depends on the fiber material, and the amount of fiber used to create artificial grass.

Materials like nylon are not UV-resistant and will fade over time. But it’s important to remember that nylon is primarily used in gym turf, landscape turf does not have nylon fibers in its construction.

Pro Tip: To keep landscape turf looking its best, make sure to rake up any stray leaves or other debris. If it gets dirty, dusty, or muddy, simply hose it down and leave it to dry.

Myth 10: Artificial Grass is Too Expensive

Artificial Grass Myth 10: Playsafe Premium Turf Rolls

Expert Opinion: False

It’s true, artificial turf does cost more than natural grass upfront, but when investing in your outdoor living space, artificial grass saves you time and money. Over the years, artificial grass pays for itself, while natural grass continues to rack up costs.

How to Choose Laminate Flooring

14mm KronoSwiss Origin

Before you dive into the top-performing products, it’s important to know what to look for when shopping for laminate flooring. Here are a few crucial considerations.

Durability

All laminate comes with an abrasion class rating, also known as the AC rating. This rating measures the durability of the flooring. When you want a durable floor, look for a rating of AC4 or AC5 Flooring with this rating is durable enough for all residential use, and even commercial spaces.

DIY Friendliness

Everyone loves DIY projects these days, and laminate flooring offers the perfect opportunity. It’s a dream for DIYers. Most planks are designed with interlocking edges that click together with ease. No need to hire an installer. You can do it all yourself, and save some money.

Style

Your floor is something you see every day, so of course, you want something that looks good. Laminate is best known for its highly realistic wood looks and textures. It comes in the most popular wood-look shades and textures, so you’re certain to find a look that matches your home.

Waterproof Design

In a busy home with pets or kids, waterproof flooring can be a lifesaver. While laminate has had a reputation for less-than-perfect water resistance, that’s no longer the case. You can now find genuine waterproof laminate flooring that’s ideal for bathrooms, basements, and more.

Budget

Price is one of the biggest considerations for your new floor, no matter what features or styles you’re looking for. Fortunately for you, laminate is one of the most affordable wood-look flooring options on the market. You can get a beautiful new floor without breaking the bank.
